A Letter

Dear Mrs. Duncan:

Thank you so much for allowing Joan and me to visit your classrooms. Words can’t express how impressed we are with your program.

I was in education for 30 years, 21 as a principal. I inherited a structured, traditional, workbook oriented program. I lament the fact that I didn’t make a greater effort to make some changes. Not that our teachers didn’t supplement the workbooks with manipulatives; still it was lockstep approach. I must admit that I wasn’t an early childhood specialist, so much of what I did was simply to foster the status quo. Also, my efforts to “break the mold” would have been strongly resisted by the old guard teachers and our conservative community.

I marvel at the Montessori Philosophy. I don’t believe Sara could be placed in a better educational environment.

I’m convinced you folks are fulfilling the most important role in all of education.

Now that I have visited your classrooms and read the Montessori booklet, I consider myself an expert and will begin to spread the word.

Thanks again for affording us such a wonderful experience. Keep up the good work.

Jack Lewis (Sara’s Grandpa)
P.S.: Thank you for allowing us to look over your shoulder.
